About These Calculators
Our Australian salary calculators estimate take-home pay using official ATO federal income tax brackets and the 2% Medicare levy. Australia has no state or territory income tax, so calculations are simpler than in many other countries. Each calculator uses current tax rates for the selected financial year (July–June). Results are estimates for planning purposes—for official figures, refer to the Australian Taxation Office.
How Is Take-Home Pay Calculated in Australia?
Federal income tax uses progressive brackets (2025-26: 0% up to $18,200, then 16%, 30%, 37%, and 45% on higher bands). The Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income for most taxpayers, with low-income thresholds. Net salary = gross salary minus federal tax, Medicare levy, and any salary sacrifice super. Employer super (12% from July 2025) is paid on top of your salary—it is not deducted from take-home pay.
