Pro-Rata Salary Calculator

About This Calculator

This Australia Pro-Rata Calculator adjusts a full-time annual salary for part-time work or a shortened contract. Enter your full-time equivalent salary and the number of weeks you will work (or the proportion of the year). The calculator prorates your gross salary and applies federal tax and Medicare levy to give you an estimated take-home pay. Useful for part-time roles, fixed-term contracts, parental leave returns, or mid-year starts.

How Is Pro-Rata Salary Calculated in Australia?

Pro-rata gross salary = full-time salary Γ— (weeks worked Γ· 52). For example, a $90,000 full-time salary for 26 weeks worked = $45,000 gross.

Federal income tax and the Medicare levy are then applied to this prorated gross amount using the same brackets as for full-time salaries. The tax-free threshold ($18,200) and higher brackets still apply, so a lower prorated income may result in a lower effective tax rate.

The calculator does not model PAYG withholding timingβ€”in reality, your employer may spread tax across pay periods. This tool gives an annualised estimate. For precise figures, especially with variable hours or multiple employers, consider consulting the ATO or a tax adviser.
